Biggs Jasper Cabochons

Biggs Jasper is a classic NW American picture jasper that comes from a deposit near Biggs Junction, Oregon.

Named for its location it is called Biggs Jasper, Biggs Picture Jasper or Blue Biggs Jasper.

It was first found in 1960 in a creek bottom and in 1966 a large deposit was found when U.S. Hwy 97 was relocated through a canyon south of Biggs Junction. Unfortunately the area is now paved over!

Biggs Picture Jasper is known for its browns, and orbs or scenic patterns. It is very similar to Deschutes Jasper, China Hollow Jasper and the more recent find called Beers Mountain, all found nearby, but Biggs Jasper is known for its more blue tinges, hence the name Blue Biggs Jasper, and its reddish brown banding.

Biggs Jasper cabochons have a a hardness of about 7 on the Moh's scale. Biggs Jasper semiprecious stone designer cabochons have a great polish and have great wearability.
