Azurite-Malachite

Azurite Malachite is a very popular blue and green semiprecious stone.

It is know for its fantastic colors, a deep royal blue Azurite and a contrasting leafy green Malachite.

The word Azure is derived from the Arabic word for blue. Malachite gets its name from the Greek, malache, "mallow" in reference to its green leaf color.

Both colors are due to the presence of copper. Azurite and Malachite are copper carbonates and this semiprecious stone material is usually found in major copper mines.

The Azurite-Malachite material used for our designer cabochons comes from the Morenci Mine, Morenci, Greenlee County, Arizona.

Azurite has been used as a dye for paints and fabrics for eons. It is very similar in composition and often found with green Malachite. Malachite too, was crushed for pigment, and often used as make-up.

Both materials are soft, about a 4, and care must be taken when wearing or cleaning these blue green gemstones.

Azurite Malachite is usually stabilized for easier cutting and often we will back the semiprecious stone cabochons with a thin layer of black agate for increased stability.

Metaphysical Properties of Azurite Malachite:
