Purple Sagenite is a new semiprecious cabochon stone material that is a lovely opaque purple opalized fluorite with a sagenite pattern.
Sagenites are blades or needle inclusions and often form in sprays.
Fluorite is a calcium fluoride crystal.
It is named after its composition containing fluorine (Latin, fluere = "to flow").
"Opalized" is a pseudomorph that is similar to "fossilized" or "petrified" but the original material is replaced with common opal rather than silica.
Opal that is mostly opaque, with no play of color, is actually quite common. Opal is a hydrated silica material and is softer than silica, with a hardness of only 5.5 to 6.5.
These pretty and unique Purple Sagenite cabochons do not have a high gloss polish.
Fluorite is used to clear the mind of confusion, cluttered thoughts, and negativity. Common Opal cabochons are said to be calming stones that soothe the emotional body and promote a more positive outlook.
