Fossilized Coral
Fossilized or Agatized Coral cabochons are actually a stone pseudomorph after coral.
It is pre-historic coral that died many years ago, and was buried under sediment on the ocean floor. Mineral rich water flows throught the skeleton structures. This process gradually replaces the organic material with stone, preserving the original structure of the coral. The Fossil Coral cabochon stones retain the characteristics of the original replaced coral.
These tan and/or brown colored Fossil Coral gemstone cabochons have a striking flower pattern.
The semiprecious stone material used for these lovely cabochons came from the Hunan Province of China.
